Guerilla Wiki Marketing

A Wiki is a collaborative website which allows users to add and edit content collectively.

There are both public and private Wikis (akin to the Internet vs a company Intranet), but generally many Wikis are public and Wiki can be edited by anyone using an Internet browser. This kind of collaborative involvement has lead to huge databases of information, like the famous Wikipedia Wiki.

However, in contrast to the huge sprawling Wikis, there are small specialized niche Wikis that provide enormous opportunities for Internet Marketers to promote their websites. Specialized Wikis exists on many topics ranging from Wikis about specific car brands to locale specific Wikis…

So how can the average Internet Marketer capitalize on this growing trend?

Well, the key to Guerilla Wiki Marketing is to research the target topic and identify is any Wikis exist for that topic. Additionally, it is important to note that in order for a Wiki to be of value to an Internet Marketer it must meet a few basic criteria; it must be publicly editable and it must allow “External Links” to related websites to be posted.

Once you have identified a qualified Wiki on your target topic it’s time to be a responsible Wiki contributor by making legitimate contributions to the Wiki and build a reputation as a valuable contributor (do not spam!). Make a contribution by adding some missing information or correcting some erroneous information. List your website as a legitimate related resource in the “External Links” section but remember to only post your website on a relevant Wiki page so as not to offend the Wiki Gods!

Oh, and if no Wiki exists for your target topic…consider starting one!
